Senior Category Manager/Category Manager

Langley Search & Interim is searching for a Senior Category Manager/Category Manager - Directs for a large manufacturing client, based in Leicestershire, with multiple locations across the UK.  This role sits within Group Procurement.

You will work on direct procurement projects & areas which involve multiple sites across the Group. Your approach will be collaborative & team orientated and you will be able to evidence that you deliver.  Procurement is established internally and there is a huge opportunity to deliver value for money (above and beyond just savings) including supporting innovation and risk management.  Key to success will be your ability to build strong relationships across multiple sites and functional areas with credibility - building strong relationships with the supply base and customers will also be essential.

Ideally you will have CIPS or be studying for this qualification and be of graduate calibre.  You should be mobile to travel across the UK.

In return for your experience and expertise a salary of up to £65k is offered plus car, bonus & pension.

The Opportunity:-

My client, who have invested in / expanded and transformed their procurement function, are currently recruiting for an ICT Category Manager. Reporting into the Director of Procurement, the successful candidate will be a key player in the commercial delivery across a spectrum of IT programmes which could be hardware, software, networks, telecoms and digital related.

The key deliverables for the role are:-

  • Managing a number of ICT related category projects with an emphasis on commercial best practice
  • Leading commercial negotiations with suppliers on all contracts
  • Ownership and delivery of strategic category plans
  • Demonstrating a strong stakeholder / project management focus

Key Candidate Criteria:-

  • In depth knowledge and practical experience of procurement best practice and commercial delivery within a centralised function, gained from either the private or public sector.
  • Knowledge of category management and its commercial value coupled with the ability to challenge the ethos, influence and deliver best value
  • Broad ICT Category experience gained across areas such as hardware, software, digital or cloud.

Category Lead - IT (Application Development & Management)

We are looking for a Category Lead – IT.  As a senior role, you would have full accountability for developing the Application Development & Management market, which will require a level of flair and innovation to support supplier and customers in all procurements resulting in compliant, ‘best value’ buying, ultimately producing continuous savings, benefitting the department.

The role will challenge your leadership skills and require you to bring consistency, direction and performance across your team, with detailed focus on stakeholder engagement, market analysis, driving market strategies and category growth.

As this is a senior opportunity within the department, successful candidates will need to have proven ability in Strategy Development, Operational Delivery or Customer Engagement.

Procurement and Commercial Manager

The opportunity

Working for a Local Authority the successful candidate will be part of the senior management team and have overall responsibility for commercial procurement activity across a number of diverse spend areas including HR, ICT, Fleet and Transport. Key deliverables include:-

  • Lead and develop a dynamic commercial procurement team through inspirational leadership and playing an active role in the creation and monitoring of bespoke staff development plans.
  • Provide expert advice on procurement strategies, business plans, tender processes and contract management practices.
  • Lead engagement with internal and external stakeholders to drive collaboration, best practice sharing and value for money outcomes.
  • Oversee contract management assurance reviews to ensure appropriate procurements and contracts from across all tiers are meeting business plans and agreed strategic outcomes. Lead assurance of complex and high value procurements and contracts.
  • Establish key performance metrics and benchmarks relating to all aspects of commercial procurement including measuring actual performance against targets and presenting results to Senior Management.

The successful candidate will ideally bring a blend of:-

  • Extensive experience and successful track record leading a commercial procurement area operating in a diverse range of categories covering high risk, high value and complex spend. 
  • Strong commercial leadership and judgement with a well-developed ability to identify and achieve efficiencies.
  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience of procurement best practice and commercial delivery within a centralised function, ideally gained in both the private and public sector.

My client a leading Technology company based in Paris, France. They are currently looking for a specialist IT Sourcing Manager to join their team. Reporting into the CPO, you would be helping internal stakeholders gain best value from their IT contract portfolio. You will help the team with delivering strategic and tactical IT procurement projects in IT categories with an emphasis on cloud & digital.

You will work closely with the CTO to run tendering processes, IT contract negotiations and with ongoing vendor management. You will immediately be involved in projects that are currently running and must be able to manage procurement projects to tight deadlines.

Interim Procurement Manager

Langley Search & Interim is retained by a leading client in the hospitality sector that is seeking to review their category plans to support their offering to VIP clients including their offerings on food, drink, disposables, media (newspapers/magazines and on-line), equipment and other areas. They seek a procurement interim to assist them for a period of 3-6 months due to several people in their team being seconded to other projects.

You will have the following:

  • Hospitality/food procurement experience including understanding the importance of supply chain aspects and standardisation across sites
  • Knowledge of the supply base in this area to enable consolidation of supply base
  • Commercial approach – can negotiate and draft contracts (including SLA’s) and ensure value for money
  • A team player – not interested in the glory!

  • Able to visit multiple sites around the UK (c. 1 day/week off site) – based in Central London
