Contracts Manager - Essex

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Contracts Manager to join a reputable NHS Trust in Essex to assist the Head of Contracting to ensure the provision of a cost effective, efficient and responsive purchasing and supply chain management service to the Trust. 

Key duties include:

- Maximising cost savings by a proactive approach leading to better procurement practice.

- Managing and developing a competent and committed purchasing team capable of translating customer needs into delivered goods and services. 

- Deputising for the Head of Contracting as required

- Assisting the Head of Contracting in developing and implementing an integrated procurement strategy effectively serving the needs and objectives of the Trust.

- Assisting in the production of a procurement work plan for a defined category of services and commodities to deliver the maximum savings possible with a minimum agreed annual savings target.

- Leading and effectively managing the procurement agenda on behalf of selected Directorates within Trust.   Ensure compliance with the Trust’s Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions, and National and EU legislation.

- Supporting the Head of Purchasing as a Trust lead and reference point in all Procurement issues, being one of the main focus points for all Procurement and Purchasing related issues within the Trust and with external agencies and suppliers

- Managing the purchasing contracts and associated databases and updating as appropriate

The successful candidate will have:

- A strong working knowledge of procurement strategy

- Expert negotiating and purchasing skills acquired through a professional procurement qualification such as the Charter Institute of Purchasing& Supply (CIPS) or NVQ level 4 or a degree (e.g. MBA)

- Experience in a commercial or public sector environment
